At Gramercy Dental Suite, we offer root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, for patients who have a severely infected or inflamed tooth. This procedure is used to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.
The inner part of a tooth, called the pulp, contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed, it can cause severe pain and can lead to an abscess (a pocket of pus) if left untreated.
During a root canal procedure, the dentist will numb the area around the tooth, and then make a small hole in the top of the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canals. Using specialized instruments, the dentist will remove the infected or inflamed pulp, and then clean, shape, and disinfect the root canals. Once the canals are clean and disinfected, the dentist will fill them with a material called gutta-percha, and then seal the tooth with a filling or a crown.
After a root canal procedure, the tooth may be sore for a few days, but over-the-counter pain relievers can be used to manage any discomfort. It's important to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by the dentist to ensure a successful outcome.
Root canal treatment can save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted and can help prevent future oral health problems. It's an effective and relatively painless procedure that can be completed in one or two visits.
If you are experiencing severe tooth pain or sensitivity, please contact Gramercy Dental Suite. Our experienced dentist will examine your tooth and determine if a root canal treatment is necessary. We use the latest technology and techniques to ensure your treatment is comfortable and effective.
